Welcome to the sounds of silence festival 3rd edition

Sounds of Silence festival presents silent film masterpieces with cutting edge contemporary music, performed live. This year we celebrate our 3rd edition, coming to The Hague in February 24-26 / 2017; sponsored by Gemeente Den Haag and Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds; and hosted by theatre De Nieuwe Regentes.

For its 3rd edition the festival will explore three different themes: The first day of the festival will be dedicated to avant-garde film and music with an experimental, interactive performance by iii for the Swedish film Häxan, and a live soundtrack by Computer Aided Breathing to the Japanese avant-garde film A Page of Madness. The second day of the festival will be dedicated to the Swedish director, actor and scriptwriter Victor Sjöström. Sjöström was one of the most prominent Swedish film and theatre personalities of the 20th century and a constant source of inspiration for many directors, most notably Ingmar Bergman. We will show a Bergman film in which Sjöström played the main role and two silent films which he directed. The third and closing day of the festival will reflect upon silent cinema through the ages, starting with a contemporary wild homage to the silent era of film and ending with a live jazz performance which captures the vibe of the “roaring 20s”.

In addition, visitors are welcome to visit the various art exhibitions which will be open throughout the duration of the festival, free of charge.
